The fun, quirky single "Video Killed the Radio Star" garnered The Buggles international attention in 1980, but it was just one of The Age of Plastic's fascinating, futuristic visions. It's a world, though, where technology is seen for what it is - full of both promise and frightening implications

The Buggles are an English new wave band formed in London, England, in 1977 by singer and bassist Trevor Horn and keyboardist Geoffrey Downes. The duo released their first album, The Age of Plastic, in January 1980 with "Video Killed the Radio Star" as its lead single.

The band name is a play on a certain insectoid British Invasion band and Horn's desire to be their New Wave equivalent, although they always seemed closer to the Moody Blues to me (all the fade-out aaaaahhh-ing). I still lived in Belgium when the Buggles hit big with the "Video Killed the Radio Star" in late 1979, and couldn't wait to snap up their debut album, back in the vinyl days. Now, 30 years later, I bought this reissue. The Age of Plastic" (11 tracks, includind 3 bonus tracks; 48 mi. plays like a trip back in time, and plays surprisingly well, frankly. The album starts off with "The Plastic Age", an epic 5 min. track that expands on the sound of the "Video" tune. The original album only had 8 tracks, 4 on each side, and was a quick listen
