Bob Dylan's 1974 album, Blood on the Tracks, reminded the world that Dylan was a songwriter without peer. On his next album, he decided to experiment by taking on a co-writer, theater director Jacques Levy. While the songs on Blood on the Tracks were highly personal, these new songs were largely about characters, both real and imagined. Joey" is an 11-minute tribute to the New York mobster Joey Gallo, while "Hurricane" passionately argues that the boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter was falsely convicted of murder. About 10 trillion words have been written about exactly what happened that day, not least about how Dylan seemed to walk away convinced the crowd had booed him. Undeterred, he went back into the studio just four days later to finish recording Highway 61 Revisited. This time, the songs were bluesy and the lyrics were more surreal.

Bob Dylan is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on March 19, 1962 by Columbia Records. Produced by Columbia's legendary talent scout John H. Hammond, who signed Dylan to the label, the album features folk standards, plus two original compositions, "Talkin' New York" and "Song to Woody".

Greatest Bob Dylan Albums. The Top Ten. 1 Highway 61 Revisited. 4 The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. One of my favourite albums ever. Perfect from start to finish. Every track on this album is good. Highway 61" is my favourite but this is only slightly behind, so I thought I would give this the vote to help it a bit. I would put up Side Two of Bringing It All Back Home against the entire Beatles collection.

So why would he do an album full of covers? Blame the record company. After Dylan ditched Columbia for Asylum in ’73, his erstwhile label pieced together the LP from scraps and outtakes to sully Bob’s name and make a few bucks. Columbia was successful on both fronts: Dylan somehow sold more than 500,000 copies, yet it’s his most universally panned album. 37. Knocked Out Loaded (1986). Even Dylan’s less successful albums have some sort of audacious vision or greater artistic purpose that seeks to elevate or justify the work

Bob Dylan & The Band recorded over 100 tracks during this time, and while most of them circulated for years on bootleg recordings, it wasn’t until 1975 that they were officially released. The album is notable for its sound, which was a distinct turn away from the type of songwriting Dylan had been exploring on Blonde on Blonde and Highway 61 Revisited. 2. The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan Year: 1963 Bob Dylan’s second album, Freewheelin’, came out in 1963 right at the beginning of his career.
