15 Big Ones is the 20th studio album by American rock group The Beach Boys released in July 1976. It comprises cover versions of rock and roll and rhythm and blues standards, along with a few new originals. Three singles were issued: a cover of Chuck Berry's "Rock and Roll Music" and the originals "It's .

In August 1976, the Beach Boys delivered another summer anthem from their 15 Big Ones’album. It’s OK' made its US chart debut. The song made its US chart debut on 21 August 1976. The 15 Big Ones LP had made its chart debut as America celebrated the bicentennial of its independence, and what greater symbol of cultural pride did the nation possess than the Beach Boys? As they continued to ride the new wave of popularity that had started two years earlier with their Endless Summer compilation, the group now went backwards to go forwards. In other words, 15 Big Ones was comprised largely of new covers of old rock ‘n’ roll classics, including the lead single, a spirited take on Chuck Berry’s ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Music

And get this – Brian was going to return to touring with his brothers, cousins and friends after 11 years of the hermitic life. As ambitious and auspicious as these aspirations might have been, the lone Beach Boys studio album release of 1976 stands as 15 Big Ones, recorded between January and May with the bulk of the recording held at the band’s own Brother Studio in Santa Monica. The title was a reference to the number of tunes on the album and to the 15th anniversary of The Beach Boys as a professional band (the actual date of the band’s first paid gig was December 31, 1961).

But in a way, Love is succumbing to the supersophisticates’ put-down of the group as just another average white band, with the implication of soulless mediocrity. It’s fashionable to dismiss the Beach Boys as mindless musical hedonists with a chassis-deep appreciation of cars, girls and food-all fast. He also personally produced their first new material since 1972 for the smash album 15 Big Ones-one of five by the Beach Boys now on the charts. In Rock’n’Roll Music, the guys have their first top-ten single since their 1966 classic, Good Vibrations. The year after that, when he began to happen, Jimi Hendrix boasted: Now we’ll never have to listen to surf music again.

Short of getting all of the band's albums, or the box set Good Vibrations, this set presents more of the fascinating Beach Boys recording story than anything else out there. Track Listing - Disc 1. Sample. 10. I Just Wasn't Made for These Times. Tony Asher, Brian Wilson.
